If you are trying to promote a hair salon for example, you will want to be checking out beauty and fashion forums, joining groups that are related to hairstyling and contributing content to these places on important topics such as salon insurance or proper skin care.

As I said above, I attended the World Internet Summit in Sydney Australia, in March 2008 and it has been a turning point for me in my online business.

Whilst I had been serious about building my online business to ensure my families ongoing financial security after attending the World Internet Summit, I was in deadly earnest. Sony Ericsson Re-Coloured Their Classic Logo

Sony Ericsson have recently been searching for a way to refresh their brand logo, it appears now that they have done just that. Ever since Sony and Ericsson became one back in 2001, the design of the logo hasn’t been altered. Since the start, it’s always been the circle metal like casing around the liquid green center, but, that’s all about to change.

Even though the actual main business logo design and shape isn’t changing, the colours that are used are going to be changed. What they are going to do is simply change the colouring of the insides to try and keep the logo fresh. They have completed creating a bunch of logo examples using different colours such as blue, pink, purple and brown. No figures have been released about how much it cost them for the re-design as I assume they hired a logo designer to do the job.

This news is released prior to the release of their new marketing campaign which is meant to be their biggest ever. The 8 million pound campaign will be advertising their new Entertainment Unlimited proposition which is made up of their new phone models, the new Aino, Satio and Yari. The campaign also includes the release of their PlayNow download service that they are beginning.

The last big marketing campaign that the company did was 3 years back in 2006 where they put their logo into sentences, replacing any heart symbols. This campaign was also the start of vibrant colours being used in adverts to try and seperate Sony Ericsson from other phone makers.

To go with this new ad campaign, Sony Ericsson will be giving away some prizes for football fans. When the new ad campaign launches next month, if you buy a Yari, Aino or Satio phone, you could win tickets to a 2010 World Cup match.

 

Melbourne City Hire Landor to Create New Brand Logo

Most people will know that businesses will spend a fortune on company logos in an attempt to improve business, but does a city really require one? Melbourne City Council in Australia have recently shown off their new city logo design. The logo, which has been design in a number of colours and styles, is a big letter M. The design was created by the giant American branding company, Landor.

Landor is one of the biggest branding companies in the world and they have worked with some huge clients that include Bmi, BP, Disney, Evian, FedEx, Kelloggs, LG, Nestle, Samsung and Volvo, just to name a few. Coca-Cola was one of Landor’s most recent clients where they re-designed their brand logo.

Many people will happily welcome the new logo as the old one didn’t help the city as it featured simply a leaf. However, this modern logo looks to make the city appear more innovative and attractive to tourists. Although many people will welcome this new logo, there are many against it, because just like the London 2012 logo, it’s been questioned over value for money.

The city mayor has recently stated that the research and sample logos for the design cost $91,000 plus the cost of the final design which came in at around $150,000. This brings the total cost of the new logo in at $240,000, alright if you have the money, but that’s not including the costs for replacing all the old logos.

According to the mayor, this cost will be saved in the long run and that the old leaf logo will be phased out in the current year.

The reason for this new logo design was because the city council want to try and improve the international image of the city. Also, by creating a new look for the city, they hope it will bring more money to the city via tourists. You’d think that being such a massive city, they wouldn’t have a problem with attracting visitors, however, they do struggle compared to other popular cities.

Although they do, places like New York, Paris and London don’t need to brand themselves because simply the name brings in the money. However, for something like Melbourne, although the city is well known around Australia, in the rest of the world, it’s out done by Sydney which brings in more crowds.

Hopefully this new logo really will pay off otherwise they could have alot of criticism as the general public realise that the $200,000 investment isn’t paying off.

DesignBay Launch Competition To Create New South Wales Logo

DesignBay, a design website created by a 25-year-old entrepreneur, has created a competition to design a new logo for the New South Wales Government. The grand prize for creating the logo in $1000. The winning logo will then be given to the Premier of the State, Nathan Rees, as well as the Government of New South Wales. No matter what country you are from, you are allowed to enter the competition, even UK logo design amateurs.

This competition was launched after Nathan Rees who commissioned $5000 to create a new logo for the government. The logo took 18 months to develop and create, once it was launched, it faced quick criticism. The logo created was meant to be based on the state’s floral emblem, a Waratah flower, and this is why it faced the criticism. However, many flower and design experts have said that the design looks more like a Lotus flower, the national flower of India.

The competition is going to be up for 30 days and it’s already collected over a hundred competition entries. Even thoguh the competition only offers $1000, a fifth of the amount payed for Nathan Rees’ logo, the 1400 designers on the site are more than pleased with the $1000 prize.

The owner of the design site, Alec Lynch, had this to say: “We’ve opened it up to our community of 1400 creative designers from around the world and the Australian public in general. We want to demonstrate that running an open design contest for these sorts of things can get you a better result; something that everyone likes. The government stuffed theirs up.”.

The owner of DesignBay said that “with a logo that represents something important, you cant rely on individual perspectives”.. For this reason, once the competition is closed, the public will be able to vote for which logo they think suites the state the best. The winning logo will then be handed over to the government where it will hopefully then be used on everything from stationary design to website design.
